Trim field hockey is a fun form of field hockey for people with little or no field hockey experience who still want to play field hockey in a relaxed manner. One can think of trim field hockey as an enjoyable outdoor workout to maintain fitness levels.
Trim field hockey is certainly suitable for beginners as well. Usually the group of trim hockey players consists of 30+ ers, and often people who have not played hockey before.
For whom.
Trim field hockey is designed for a wide range of field hockey players, from beginner to advanced, for women and men and especially for:
A good reason to start playing field hockey is when one's own children have started playing field hockey. In this way, one can experience the game and the sport for themselves, learn the rules, also participate in the club events themselves and possibly gain the necessary insights as a coach of a youth team. For many who used to play hockey (recreationally or otherwise), trimhockey can be a new start. Another reason to play trimhockey is to avoid being stuck with league games on Sundays or because the playing strength of the existing teams is too high.
Trim hockey training
Every trim field hockey practice night (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 - 10:00 p.m.) begins with a brief warm-up to avoid injury. Usually this is already in the form of walking with a stick and ball. After this there is practice of the basic "stop and hit" techniques, including a number of techniques such as pushing, forehand flats, sliding stroke, long stroke and the like. Then there are a number of technical exercises (running with the ball, accepting and passing, combining in 2- or 3-pairs, scoring on goal). In the course of the training year all kinds of technical and tactical matters are discussed and the rules of the game are briefly explained.
The last 30 minutes are usually spent playing a game on a half or quarter court with a cool-down afterwards. Training sessions are taught by experienced field hockey players.
Participating in trim field hockey
Anyone interested can join for a few evenings without obligation before making the decision to join the club. You do need to provide your own artificial grass or sports shoes and shin guards. A bit (tooth protector) is recommended and meanwhile mandatory at matches. A stick can be borrowed upon request.
Because there are also ex-competition field hockey players in trim field hockey, we ask for patience, understanding and adaptability regarding the level. It must be avoided that it gets too wild and that the less experienced field hockey player does not get a chance.
Trim hockey philosophy
The philosophy of trim field hockey is to let your fellow players and your opponents play. Especially in match play, this requires a certain social field hockey behavior that should be made clear to everyone who wants to participate in trim field hockey.
It is up to the experienced trim hockey players to teach these social field hockey skills to the new trim members.
Trim field hockey is not the training ground for league hockey players, although there are some in the group.
Increasing trim field hockey activities
A number of enthusiastic trim hockey players enjoy playing tournaments or possibly inter-club competitions (or even continue training during winter break).
A proposal is to keep the normal rules of the game, with the following modifications:
First NK Trimhockey (June 2022)
In 2022 HC Oranje-Rood hosted the very first NK Trimhockey. Cozy and fanatical teams, exciting games, tropical temperatures, plenty of cooling (from inside and outside😅) were the ingredients of this fantastic event.
